What is a goods lift?

Goods lifts are expressly designed and specified for the transportation of goods on pallets, trolleys, or loosely packed items. They are most commonly used to assist with the movement of stock in warehouses, distribution centres, retail stores and catering environments. As result of the wide variety and duty requirements of a goods lift, Niche Lifts supplies and installs both small and large goods lifts that have a carrying capacity from 500 to 2000 kg. All of our goods lifts solutions meet the latest standards and are fully compliant with the Machinery Directive.

Types of goods lifts

Essentially there are two types of goods lifts; one that is operated without an attendant and cannot carry passengers, and one that requires a person (attendant) to travel in the lift, controlling it from within the lift car by using the buttons on the lift control panel. All of our goods lifts are supplied with a self-supporting structure, which minimises structural modifications to your building. Goods lift structures can also be provided with full cladding that reduces the amount of building work required to complete the installation.

Goods only/non-attended lifts

Goods only lifts are controlled from outside of the lift car via control buttons located at each landing entrance. The Niche Lifts non-attended goods lift provides an efficient and cost-effective solution for the floor to floor movement of goods/freight in either commercial or industrial environments. The lift operates within a steel shaft structure which is anchored to the building, and can be either clad to all four sides or installed in a traditional lift shaft. Depending upon specification, a Niche Lifts non-attended goods lift can travel up to 9 metres (3 stops), and only requires a 100 mm pit. Read more about goods only lifts.

Attended goods lifts

Attended goods lifts are ideal for locations where the stairway is not in close proximity to the lift, or where goods are being frequently moved and require worker handling. In these instances, Niche Lifts can supply and install goods lifts which can carry an attendant to accompany the goods and to assist with fast and efficient loading/unloading. As with our non-attended goods lift, our attended goods lift operates within a steel shaft structure which is anchored to the building, and can be either clad to all four sides or installed in a traditional lift shaft. Depending upon specification, a Niche Lifts attended goods can travel up to 15 metres (5 stops), and only requires a 200 mm pit. A 4-stop option is available that only requires a 100 mm pit.
